Hi All
Thanks for helping me to get Oticon Genie 2. I was able to run feedback optimizer and reduced the feedback sound to almost zero. But still I am getting the "eeeeeng" noise whenever I open the mouth fully! Is there any cure for that? Thanks in advance.
Ana

Can we see your;
  • Receiver power (60, 85, 100)?
  • Receiver Domes or Molds?
  • Hearing Loss/Audiogram?

Thanks for the response. No idea of power. But I saw the number 85 in Genie 2. Molds and Audiogram are attached as jpg. Regards.

Oh, I was thinking you might be wearing RIC style hearing aids with receivers-and-domes. Like this;

Your Hearing Loss/Audiogram is not a severe-or-profound hearing loss that requires a lot of gain and therefore becomes difficult to eliminate the feedback/squeal. So that should not be a worry.

Which leaves Leakage as the suspected problem. Watch this video about → feedback/squeal to understand this normal interaction between speaker and microphone, (any speaker and microphone).

There are different types of small hearing aids that fit in your ears:
  • custom moulded types, an impression of your ears is used to create a case to fit exactly your ear
  • generic types that are designed to fit any ear (somewhat like earbuds for cell phone music)
With either type you can still get feedback/squeal between the hearing aid microphone-and-speaker. But with custom moulded types the usual solution is to remake the custom mold for a better fit.

Thank you.
Asking for a new mould would be pricey as they send the impression to Denmark! Do you think reducing the gain a bit would help? And whats the best way to that with Giene 2?
And one weird question. Is there any way to know that my hearing aids are over amplifying sounds?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I have little-to-no experience reducing other people's feedback/squeal, and I don't experience any feedback problems myself?

If you are confident that you can revert back the settings from a previous fitting session, then perhaps you can experiment by trying a brand new fitting using your own inSitu measurements;
  • Genie 2 / Help / Open Help File /
  • Type "in situ" in the Search Box and Press Enter
However, this will discard all of your previous settings. Including professional REM/Real Ear Measurement adjustments (if any). Also note your receiver-power/Acoustics settings/vent size beforehand as these will also be discarded.
