Hello, I am about to go for hearing aids. I have been tested and lost my high frequency range 7 and 8 khz. I am going to Costco because the have a great deal on a pair of BTE hearing aids. Can anyone offer any input as to which is better BTE or in the canal. Ive never wore aids before. I'd like them to work with blue tooth. Most of my problem is I cannot hear anyone when there is background noise. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

nicatnite,
You really can't lose going with Costco, they have good hearing aids at really good prices, great 90 day trial and 100% money back return and a great warranty if you use a Costco American Express card. I would ask the fitter at Costco to let you try the Kirkland, Bernafon and Resound hearing aids while your in the store and you can see if you like the sound of the aids before you pay for them.

As for style of HA's. If you want Bluetooth capabilities I would go with a BTE HA, it will give you the most bells and whistles and limit any occlusion because with your loss being in the HF you would have an open fit. I believe that all the BTE hearing aids at Costco have Bluetooth streaming devices available. I know that Bernafon uses the Soundgate and is identical to Oticon's Streamer which I have used for 3 years and have been very satisfied with. Resound uses the Phone Clip and I'm not sure what they use with the Kirkland Signature's. An ITE or CIC hearing aid would give you some occlusion because it would fill your entire ear canal and limit natural sounds from entering you ear. My LF hearing is very good but my HF aren't and I was told BTE's would be the best for me and I have been very pleased with how they have worked for me so far.

With your hearing loss being in the upper high frequencies you won't get a huge WOW factor from hearing aids, but you will find you will hear better but the difference will be subtle. I have a pair of Costco Resound Vivid hearing aids that have an awesome restaurant program that cuts out basically all the background noise and lets you hear those around you. These HA's were set up by a hearing instrument specialist at Costco who wears hearing aids and truly understands what needs to be done to improve your hearing in challenging situations and these HA's in a noisy setting are way better than my Oticon HA's.

Once you get the hearing aids start keeping a journal and every time you notice something positive or negative write it down and this will help your fitter adjust the HA's when you go in for adjustments. Good luck!
