I've been wearing hearing aids for over 30 years.. Years ago an audiologist visited my Wasilla, AK Jr High shop , to discuss one of my students who would need me to wear a mic. After discussing what and how we needed to proceed, she wanted to discuss my hearing problem... After moving to Oregon in 2004 to be closer to family.... neither kid wanted to return to Alaska, my audiologist moved me to Starkey.. He couldn't satisfactorily correct my severe loss and arranged for me to go to the Starkey main. Bill Austin convinced me I needed BTE with "solid plug" and assurred me that the new ones were water resistant. I've moved thru many upgrades, finally ending at Edge AI24. Not thrilled with them... The current mini mic doesn't have a jack connection that I had been using. And I have to wear the iphone near my neck to keep a phone connection from switching ears... I ride horses and my instructor uses group phone. However, I do hear better. In fact, when I first got aids, eons ago, my staff remarked that they noticed a great improvement. I wish I knew about this forum before now, but I'm here now. As a teacher, I'm a life-long learner even at 79.
