Hi all,

I've been wearing Resound/Jabra for the last 8 years. Don't love em. Don't hate em. But I am interested in what all is out there. I DIY my programming. I would love to hear thoughts you have on any of the following topics. Not really interested in sound *quality* since that is so very subjective.

  • experiences with 2 or more of these models as regards hearing speech in noise
  • experiences with 2 or more of these models as regards hearing a back seat talker while driving in a car
  • if you are a DIY programmer, what are your thoughts about the software
  • I like that the Philips offers 24 bands (the Jabras only offer 10) have you found more handles to be helpful (I have very unlinear hearing loss that the standard tests don't always show)
  • anything else you want to say good/bad/etc about any of the current models
Thanks.

(1) Jabras have the latest technology for speech in noise. It's the latest tech available at Costco. It is arguably the closest in performance to the Spheres.
(2) Of all the options, I prefer Phonak target for DIYT: I find it is the most flexible and has more options for DIYers. You can tune almost anything in Target (this applies to the Sennheiser). Sennheisers are 100% Phonak Lumitys.
(3) Jabra does have a smaller number of programming bands, all the others have about the same number which can help with what you said.

The key differentiators I see
(1) Bluetooth connectivity: Phillips will get Auracast/Bluetooth LE Audio. Sennheiser has universal BT connectivity. Jabra already has Auracast enabled.Rexton will not get Auracast per Signia's FAQ in their web page.
(2) Jabra has the best performance in noise. Sennheiser has the lowest (this is debatable). This depends a lot on the type of dome you choose.
(3) Oticon is expected to release a new model soon (maybe beggining of next year), which means Phillips will probably release a new model too.
(4) Sennheiser will connect to anything that has bluetooth plus all Phonak accessories. Other brands have more restrictions.
In the end, the worst HA well programmed will outperform the best HA poorly programmed.
These are my opinions, others may have a different ones.
