My loss is very bad. Anyone know which hearing aid would be best for me. I think that all the bells and whistles of new hearing aids won't do me much good. Just raw power is what I probably need.

Any opinions on what brand would work best in social settings where there is a lot of background noise, i.e. a noisy restaurant or café?

It sounds like you would prefer a hearing aid that allows you to have control of your environments. There are specific hearing aid companies that give you devices such as a remote control to allow you to have these types of controls. If you are in a restaurant environment it will allow you to turn your setting to the most aggressive background suppression possible by the device. On the contradictory if you are in a situation where you actually want to hear the background noise such as church you now have the ability to control your own environment even better than someone who has normal hearing.

Is your hearing loss conductive or from auditory nerve damage? Do you have drainage history of mastoidectomy and are your ear bones still in tact?

I wear two hearing aids. The one for the left ear is okay, but the one for my diseased right ear doesn't even work. There is nothing wrong with the hearing aid but the chronic drainage, cholesteatoma and absence of anvil/hammer/stirrup and part of the eardrum appears to have blocked sound transmission. Of course, even at the optimal level, there is distortion because of "missing parts" so to speak. Yet the audiologists insisted that I still heard so much percentage of speech and a hearing aid for the right ear would balance the source of incoming auditory stimuli. Meanwhile, $2000 later and an extra $100 for a mould with vent, more often than not I put the hearing aid in and though the battery works and the filter is new, I can't hear anything out of it.

Another case in point, my mom, who has profound hearing loss, had two hearing aids. Lately one of them did not work at all and the hearing aid specialist said there was nothing more he could do because the auditory processing was severely impaired.

Would a cochlear implant be something for you to consider?

Hearing aids should be chosen according to your needs and profession. Do you prefer analog HA's? Choose the one which contains best volume controls, wind noise reduction and directional microphones. Make ensure that they are offering a trial period facility. Here is a link which contains the details of some hearing aid manufacturers ( http://www.westsideaudiology.com/hearing-resources/helpful-links/ ). Make use of it if needed.

Well,
You should come to the doctor to take a hearing test.
Then, if you have money you can buy a hearing aid(Cost a lot of money)
Some people have a limited budget will try a hearing amplifier (PSAP)
For hearing aid you can find from Phonak : www.phonak.com
