I am a 73 yr. old male getting aids for the first time. My audiologist recommends these three brands. Signia, Beltone and Resound. Can anyone help me in deciding which way I should go? THX
ANY info would help!!

Do you have Costco in your area/town? Trial before buying is best choice for 1st time user of HA's. Costco provide a 6 months trial with a small fees.

Costco offers a 6-month return policy, not a 6-month trial. I concur with Costco’s recommendation: $1600 for a pair of the most advanced hearing aids, including unlimited support and supplies. All major brands provide competitive features. The brand that works for one person might not be suitable for another. Among the three options, Resound Vivia is the newest on the market.
It’s my understanding that Beltone aids are locked, which means they can only be serviced by Beltone. This can be a disadvantage if you want to sell them later or relocate away from a Beltone office.

The fitting software (Beltone Solus Max v2.2.209.13) is available, as described by DIY School Hearing Aids (v2.2) PDF File named (01 Free Hearing Aid Fitting Software), second paragraph. I think it should work. Though, I could be wrong. I don't have any ReBranded Beltone hearing aids?

Here's a clip from a DIY School Hearing Aids (v2.2) PDF file named (Unlocking ReBranded Hearing Aids); Though, I may not have added the latest Beltone model(s) to the model list yet.

Beltone Solos Max 2.2/Solus Pro 1 is a version of GN ReSound's SmartFit-and-Aventa3 for ReBranded Beltone models;
  • Solus Pro Max Models (Serene, Achieve, Imagine, Amaze, Rely, Trust, Boost Ultra, Boost Max)
  • Solos Pro 1 Models (Legend, First, Boost Plus, Boost, Promise, micro-Invisa, Prime, Ally, TRUE, Bold, Origin)

Yes, looks like (Beltone Solus Max v2.2.209.13) is available and has new models (Envision, Boost Max S, Commence); I updated the DIY School Hearing Aids (v2.2) PDF file named (Unlocking ReBranded Hearing Aids) to include the new models as follows;
  • Solus Pro Max Models (Envision, Boost Max S, Commence, Serene, Achieve, Imagine, Amaze, Rely, Trust, Boost Ultra, Boost Max)

I understand that the software is available, but is it confirmed that they are locked?

I see hearing aid fitting software as separated into two groups, and you can read (01 Free Hearing Aid Fitting Software PDF) to see the classification for each software version. The two groups are listed below. Also, sometimes there are pin code locks which are lumped into the the 2nd group below.
  1. “standard” fitting software. This is the original fitting software for the original brand, and most Sister company brands too.
  2. “modified and Hidden” software (typically for ReBranded hearing aid models).

Though, it could be that pin-code locks are obsolete/a thing of the past, and mostly used at NHS??
