I con control this hearing aid with the Phonak app on my iPhone.
I created a new ‘profile’ (named it ‘noBam’), which softens loud noises such as cutlery on porselain etc, which are really annoying to me.
However, after selecting this profile, whenever I receive a phonecall or phone notification (which temporarily switches to a ‘streaming’ profile, the device goes back to the automatic profile…

Is there a way to set my custom profile as default and return to it after phonecalls, messages or recharging?

Kind regards.

Are you new to wearing hearing aids?

If yes, you probably have become accustomed to that comfortable silence HoH people can enjoy when not wearing hearing aids/HAs. Then, when you first start wearing HAs, it can be jarring to learn (all over again) how loud the world is. If that's the case then try to grin-and-bear it. You will get over it after a few months. Also,. HAs can be set to gradually increase volume over a time period (maybe 90-days) gradually increasing the volume and giving you time to get used to the new loud world. I think that just postpones the inevitable and prefer to get t over with.

But if the problem persists or is too distressing it could be something else, (→ hyperacusis maybe)?

And. if the grin-and-bear it solution works you can just stay on Automatic profile.

Hi @pvc , thanks for your support.
I am wearing my hearings aids since November 2024, so more than 4 months now.
I was informed and aware of the time needed to get used to them and the amplification was gradually increased.
Still the custom settings I selected are causing a lot less discomfort, so I would like to have those as default profile.

I would like to have those as default profile
Then ask your Audiologist to make the change permanent, or DIY perform a fitting session to adjust the Autosense program with your preferences permanently. That requires;
  • fitting software - Phonak Target 10.1.1 (recommended)
  • hearing aid programming device - Noahlink Wireless 2 (recommended)
  • learning curve for DIY

Do I get it right that the built-in bluetooth HW of my laptop is not sufficient to program the HA and so I need to buy (eg) a Noahlink ?

The ubiquitous Bluetooth pairing protocol in your laptop is for one way constant Streaming. Things get more complex when you need to do more, including even firmware updates which is akin to replacing the brains of your device. Also, Noahlink Wireless 2 uses BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) which is different from Bluetooth.

Also; the DIY School Hearing Aids (v2.2) access portals are at your finger tips via 24/7 cloud storage access.
  • Start here → DIY School Hearing Aids (v2.2) to find the access portals
  • You can easily find the Access Portals again/anytime, by clicking any PVC Avatar (click twice - counting the 2nd popup Avatar)
  • When logged in, you can find the Access Portals again/anytime, by clicking a Link in my Signature
  • And finally, you can perform a simple Internet search for "DIY School Hearing Aids"

The Phonak infinio has a feature called "SoundRelax" that can be adjusted for the problem you mentioned.
This feature reduces sudden loud sounds as slamming doors or clattering dishes (I copied this description from the Phonak software). This can be done by your audiologist or, as others have said, by DIY.
Mine switches to the last selected program. Have you tried the latest Phonak phone app? Phonak recently released an update for the iPhone (I imagine they also updated the Android version, but I cannot confirm)
I think it is best to talk to the audiologist (in my case, I like tinkering with toys, so I got my Noahlink Wireless 2 and did it myself).
