Have installed Genie and bought Noahlink wireless 2. Have read a few files from PVC DIY. Have created a couple of dummies in the software (to revert back) as original setting - incase anything goes wrong. Have watch the video from "Brian" but could not understand much. What the Audiology courses to read in order to start the DIY process. Can anyone helps?

If you did not understand Brian's hearsuite video, that tells me you may not have a science foundation in acoustics perhaps ?

Without you being specific, no way to provide recommendations. The audiological manufactures training is focused on how to use their tools and not science behind it.

You may need foundational courses prior to fitting courses? No way to know without more info?

I understood Brian's video fully and wanted more. I tuned 9050's better than Costco's poor fit model in a few days time, just by experimenting with settings and not adjusting curves. Although I did chsnge domes and turn off feedback manager to gain lost curve, and fix a sibilance problem at 4.5 K

That said, I had experience from room corrrection of my home theater.

Interestingly I just returned Costco hearing aid because manager would not use 100db receiver required by Philips Hearsuite to fit my left ear loss. Below 3000hz was no where bear as loud with power done as right ear eith open domes.

Further above 3000 Hz in left ear was dead.

I showed her Printout showing above 3000 hz not fitted in left with ger 85db receiver, but was with 100db. Both with power domes.

She refused to install 100db receiver software recomnended and said Costco has their own way.

Basically my left ear was a dead zone before and after Codtco fitting. With power done, actually worse because no batural sounds.

She really got her psnties in a wad and said she would not service my aids if I chsnged settings at all.

After more thanna dozen trips over 8 months where Costco continued to ignore fitti g problems, I made her refund purchase since she refusing to service my aids that I own, because I fixed a lot of her not willing to ensure aids. set up properly.

I have ski slope loss, much worse in left. Right was not perfect but not severe at high frequencies.

Left is severe to profound above 4K. I also showed her insitu test where at her tested 85db loss at 4K, I could not hear test tone. But with test tone at 100db I heard 4K tone.

Also showed her tone generator tests supportibg no correction above 3K

So avoid Costco for anything beyond cook book mild to nsy e moderate loss.

They do not have skills, training or corporate model to handle more.

But I learned a lot and now have a long list of questions to ask audiologist at first condult, when shopping for one that is ok with DIY tweaks and understands ptoblem and provides recommendations I know will help.

No Pain No Gain as thety say!

Thank you @Fossil & @Jedi for your kind reply.

25 years ago, I was fitted with a single Widex ITC. After 1 year I stopped wearing it because of the residual hearing left in the left ear. See the ski slope audiogram.

4 years ago, I started with a pair new Oticon More bought online and tuned locally using 85dB receiver but could not hear well. The Holland online company could not tune remotely - feel like cheated. Lucky the local Audi charges is cheap USD11/hour for tuning.

Joined the HL forum and bought a used pair of Xceed BTE from UK and tuned locally. Much better than More 1. Sound was loud and slow getting used to it.

Got a spared pair of Phonak Naida P70 BTE ad tuned it locally. Acceptable and a bit loud in certain sound.

Early this month, decide to DIY. Installed the software (Genie & Target). Running in Windows 11. Created 2 dummy clients in Genie 2025 (original). Shold anything goes wrong, would revert back to the original setting.

Rotating between Oticon Xceed 1 and Phonak Naida P70 every 6 months. Have a Connect clip and Roger 1. Learning at the moment.!

Problems faced - wife voice loud. Clarity/comphrension - poor. Walking slipper sound loud. Difficult to hear the other party in restaurants & driving car.

Pls advise where to start in the Genie.

A DIY School Hearing Aids (v2.2) PDF File named (How Hearing Aid Gain Fits Your Loss) attempts to explain Compression.
However, you will need to have enough residual hearing to accept the new-compressed-range. In other words, you cannot be deaf.

Look at the image below and look at the compressed/Impaired range of hearing on the right. You need a (place/"residual hearing") to put that. You can't just keep adding gain/amplification in dB/decibels. There is a ceiling for the target and the target still needs to be a range of frequencies.

I am not a professional! You should seek professional advice. But be aware that professionals may also have conflicting goals. Sometimes they want to sell hearing aids even when they won't be of much help.

Thanks PVC.
Phonak Naida P70 BTE is better than Xceed 1 during driving whereby "lane departure warning sound" could be heard. Looks like Phonak Naida P70 is slightly better in compression.
Thanks for the feedback and have a nice day.

Clip from a DIY School Hearing Aids (v2.2) PDF file named (02 How to Program your Hearing Aids);

Education via Utube Video:
Thanks to HoH-Community member @raylock1 for this video link about → How to DIY Program Hearing Aids Yourself from BRIAN (@hearing club) or (BRIAN @the hearing club). I am unsure about the various hearing-club handles since we have been buying flex connects and battery pill adapters from a similar-named website for many years?

The video is about Philips HearSuite fitting software for Philips 9030/9040/9050 hearing aids. But the video easily translates to Oticon/Bernafon, and the concept itself can be applied to most other hearing aid brands. I am not saying this is what you should do. I'm just saying this gives you insight on the vast number of settings that can be adjusted.
