Are the Oticon More aids that much better than the OPN aids?

Maybe the use of the term "digital processing" here is not the best description because except for analog hearing aids, all modern hearing aids use digital processing, so there's really not more or less digital processing. But the More (and many latest hearing aid brand/models) now employ AI (artificial intelligence) to further process sound, especially on the noise handling aspect, much more effectively.

Many people find the AI technology added to the newer hearing aids very beneficial to them, specifically in noisy situations. But nevertheless, there are still a few who said that they find the More slightly better than the OPN in noise, but only incrementally better and it's not a wow factor to them. So in that sense, I agree with @e1405 that it's a very subjective opinion and on individual can really say that the More will be better than the OPN for the poster except the poster to try out for himself. But for sure, like @e1405 shares, many do find that the More is better for them in noisy situation compared to the OPN.
The AI/DNN that Oticon has deployed in the More devices stretches my grasp of technology to its limit, but I will say that whatever and however it works to process sounds while preserving a sense of "soundscape" is truly impressive, and useful to me. I only have 2 programs that I use most of the time: VAC+ and NAL-NL1. I use NAL-NL1 all day when I'm by myself, and switch to VAC+ when HerSelf®️ comes home. But, I could easily get by leaving my hearing aids set to either one. That's what I like the best about my More1 devices. Minimal fiddling is required!

Addendum: On certain rare occasions, like when I go to the mechanic's shop to have my vehicle repaired or if I'm in a loud auditorium, I use the Speech in Noise "canned" program that Oticon offers as a preset. It works really, really well for me, but I hardly ever have call to use it.

Got a call from my audiologist: my Real2s have arrived! Fitting will take place on June 5th. Stand by for performance evaluations!

[Just for the record - I have no biases or preconceptions. I think a lot of folks are curious about whether the Real devices are better than More to the point that an upgrade is warranted. The only thing on my agenda is to give an honest opinion in that regard.]

If nothing else getting full Bluetooth for use with Android will be a major upgrade from OPN. Without full Bluetooth for Android I would have had to ask for Phonaks.

Okay ... I have both More 1 and Real2 now. Can I just go ahead and pair the new aids with my iPhone SE 2020 in the usual way, or is there some special magic involved (like: do I have to forget my old devices, or can 2 sets be paired with the same phone)?

Addendum: The answer is NO! Only one pair of hearing aids at a time can be paired with an iPhone, which is sort of a drag for doing A/B comparisons.

Nice, @SpudGunner! Let us know your observations about these two hearing aids. As for your question, I never managed to pair my Mores and OPNs to my iPhone at the same time. I don't think it is going to be any different with your More 1 and Real 2, so you will need to "forget" and "pair" every time you want to switch between them.

Thanks for your input, "e" @e1405.

During the fitting of my new Real2 devices, it became clear that my previous (fired) audiologist had failed to do REM on my More1 aids when I upgraded from More3, at my expense (at the time, DVA only provided More3s at their complete expense). He had just done the in situ fitting. The More1s I have been wearing since April 2021 sound appreciably different after REM was applied. Even though the More1s have many adjustable parameters missing from the More3s, the old audi just applied the More3 values to the More1s without going to the trouble of verifying their appropriateness ...

It's going to take me a few weeks before I can post a well-informed comparison, but -after just one day - my Real2s are very, very impressive. Quiet as the tomb, and the handling noise (which seem to work with the external mics on the iPhone and ConnectClip) and sudden noise modules make a perceptible difference in everyday use.

I really ought to hold off making any further comments about the Real2s. I just put in my More1s, after having had REM done to them yesterday, and they also are very impressive. They are much more impressive than they have been over the past two years that I've been wearing them with in situ fitting. They are quiet, too, and more responsive than they have been, heretofore. NAL-NL1 is working very well for me, too, so I don't want to leave the impression that Real2s are worlds ahead of More1s. So I'm going to keep quiet until I've worn both sets of aids for a couple of weeks.

When I pour soda over ice in a glass, wearing More 1's and Opn 1's that were professionally fit and REM adjusted for my ear canals;
  • with More 1's I can hear the fizz of bursting soda bubbles
  • with Opn 1's I cannot hear any fizz at all
It's not a very scientific comparison. But Yep, the Mores get my vote as much better. I like hearing the fizz!

Yikes, though I didn't pay $5500 for free VA hearing aids.

@pvc : Could it be the OPN has superior noise cancellation that is attenuating the fizz? (wink wink what! No emoticons?)

;) Yep, we have emoticons; Though, the forum is picky about whether (or not) you are logged on.

Should be right above "Write your reply...". Or maybe click the three vertical dots for more options.

Does any Forum member know whether or not the Oticon Real hearing aids with disposable batteries show the available power in the battery through the ON app? (@Volusiano, @pvc?) My right aid shows a number which makes sense, but the left aid always seems to show 100%. I'm confused. I changed the batteries from left to right and now the right one always shows 100%, too. Whassup, Doc?

[For the record: I got 7 days from my first pair of 312 batteries in my new Real2 hearing devices:
16->18 hrs/day, no streaming ...]

How many battery cycles have you gone through so far? If more than 1 cycle, then that battery that shows 100% in the ON app, has it quit on you yet? If that battery already quit on you but is still showing 100% on either of the aids, then there's some kind of anomaly with that battery. If you've gone through a few battery cycles and every time one side shows 100% and that follows that particular battery when you swap, then that's interesting and worth investigating some more.

@Volusiano : You realize I am using 312 disposable batteries, right? (I've quit the recyclable battery camp, and I'm never going back until the industry forces me to by giving me no choice, as it did, when I got my More1s.)

I never trusted those estimates with my OPNs (disposable batteries). They usually last for about 5 days, so I had that in mind. The % indication for my More (rechargeable batteries) seems reliable.
